Residual particulate contamination analysis in production
VDA 19.2
Do your products have cleanliness requirements but you don’t know if your facilities and supply chain are able to meet them?
The standard “VDA 19.2 Technical Cleanliness in Assembly – Environment, Logistics, Personnel and Assembly Equipment” published by the German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA) is a good practice guide for identifying, analyzing and controlling sources of residual contamination. Contamination generated during the production of parts is not easy to detect visually, but this contamination may affect the product functionality and even cause a potential failure.
Sources
The VDA 19.2 standard identifies four possible sources of contamination:
- Environment: associated with external contamination (e.g. open doors, ceiling height, internal logistics etc.).
- Logistics: linked to packaging and transportation.
- Personnel: associated with factory employees (e.g. hair, clothing, handling)
- Means of production: Associated with equipment (e.g. machines)
